to play the role of leader of the republican party. the boston globe reported that mr. romney is likely to move to la jolla, california, to spend more time with his car, presumably. but in his short time as leader of the republican party, when he was their presidential nominee, he made leadership decisions about the party. about what the party's like. about what the party looks like to the rest of the country. he made leadership decisions particularly in terms of who he would dignify with his embrace. who among everybody in the republican party, he, mitt romney, leader of the party, would privilege. who he would elevate. he elevated guys like chris cobach. the republican guy who wrote arizona's papers please immigration law. he was mitt romney's immigration adviser. he made and then kept as his national campaign chairman a man named john sununu who called president obama lazy and not very bright and said president obama needs to, quote, learn how to be an american. mitt romney's national campaign chairman. mr. romney also elevated and dignified by his presence, i'm sorry to have to say

in boston a week ago in defeat. today we finally heard from him. but i guess we wish we hadn't. the new york times reports on a 20-minute conference call he held today with his national finance committee. during the call he blamed the loss on president obama's gifts to minorities and young voters. the times says, quote, mr. romney said the president had followed the old playbook of wooing specific interest groups, especially the african-american community, the his panic community, and young people. mr. romney explained, with targeted gifts and initiatives. in each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups, mr. romney said. our strategy worked well with many people. but for those who were given a specific gift, if you will, our strategy did not work terribly well. he thinks he lost because of so-called gifts? this shows just how clueless he is. joining me now is dr. james peterson, professor at lehigh university and a contributor to the let's bring back in nia malika henderson of the washington post. thank you for joining me. >> thanks, rev. >> starting with you

outside of boston. when governor romney walked inside, he was asked by one of the reporters who followed him who do you vote for? he said i think you know who. this is the end of a six-year journey for governor romney, a presidential bid that dates back that long. today he's actually going back on the campaign trail. he's going to head to ohio and pennsylvania to try to rally support there, motivate supporters and also thank some of his volunteers. the president, of course, voted earlier. he voted last week. he is spending this day in chicago in what has become an annual tradition, at least on election day for the president is that he's going to have a game of basketball with some of his close friends, by natalie, as we have witnessed, this is an exceedingly close race right now and both sides are particularly confident that despite polls that may show the president with the lead they are going to come out victorious tomorrow. that's the latest from here. now back to you. >> peter alexander in belmont, massachusetts. and a reminder can you catch all of our nbc election night coverage liv
